The Value of Product Lifecycle Management

The key to releasing phenomenal products that easily improve year after year is to use product lifecycle management software and processes. Saratech provides industry expertise in assessment, delivery, set-up, training and mentoring of your PLM implementation.

Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) is the effective culmination of technology, processes and people working together to manage a product’s lifecycle from “womb to tomb”.

In the typical lifecycle of a product, we see the following general phases (in chronological order):

  1. Basic requirements and description
  2. Conceptual development
  3. Preliminary engineering
  4. Detail Engineering
  5. Manufacturing and Fabrication
  6. Operations, maintenance, and repair
  7. Redesign, enhancements and product life extension
  8. Decommissioning and disposal

PLM offers the opportunity to lower cost, reduce schedule and improve quality on all phases of a product’s lifecycle.  PLM does this through the harmonious implementation of enabling technology, integrated processes and an embracing corporate culture which understands and manages within the PLM context.

A typical PLM based product development environment has four layers:
